What is SARAS metal on metal? SARAS is a metal plating process that adds metals and alloys to existing components simply, quickly and cost effectively. Unlike bath plating the process is selective, only the areas for treatment are processed and being portable the processing can be carried out in-situ.
What can SARAS do?
SARAS can reclaim over machined items back to drawing tolerances. It can repair, moulds and dies recondition tools and gauges, rework defective electroplate, . reinstate accidental damage. SARAS also protects against fretting corrosion and gaulling. For the Printing industry. SARAS can repair damaged and corroded printing cylinders on sheet fed and web litho presses and repairs drums and cylinders in the paper converting trade.
How can SARAS help?
SARAS reclaims components without expensive re-manufacturing and hence can help maintain final assembly schedules. The process is portable which can be operated on site without the expensive stripdown and re-assembly of equipment
What are SARAS advantages
Pre or after machining is eliminated and there are no edge build ups. SARAS plates only where the electrode touches, therefore little masking is required. It is a cold process, there is no heat and therefore no distortion and it does not cause embrittlement. How can SARAS benefit users? There is no re-setting of machines during repair, no deterioration of finished machined components and all components are plated back to specification. And as there is no pre-machining there is no weakening of components.
What are Saras deposits?
The SARAS process produces metallurgically perfect deposits to exacting tolerances by the use of an ampere minute process control. The process can be used with electrolyte solutions for more than 20 metals and precious metals and some 10 alloy solutions. SARAS does not produce noxious fumes and has no toxic effects in correct use.
Does SARAS work on all metals?
SARAS can build metal on all types of stock including:- cast iron, stainless steel, refractory metals, electroless nickel, chrome plating etc.
How does SARAS work?
There is an extensive pre-treatment programme which prepares the component to be corrected. Metals are then deposited onto the conductive surface from and absorbent material on a moveable electrode. These deposits are fine-grained and totally free from porosity. The plated specimens can be heated to softening point and quenched without loss of adhesion from the base.
